Too bad that so many Americans would find this picture very sinister. The confusion among religious piety (which characterizes Egyptians, just as it does Americans), political Islam (eg, Muslim Brothers) and the exploitation of religious identity by extremists (eg, Al Qaeda) shows up even in the writing of otherwise savvy commentators. Lesley Gelb is an example. Les is one of the more reputable of many folks pointing to Egyptian Muslim Brothers with rising alarm.
